Grandpa went out alone for the first time in the middle of winter. We found him a few streets away. He was standing at an intersection, not knowing where he was or how to get back. He was only wearing a sweater.

Alzheimer’s was taking its toll, slowly but inexorably. On top of that, there were other conditions—heart issues, blood pressure, and medications that could not be mixed. We wanted to buy him an engraved wristband. But what could we write on it? „Alzheimer’s”? Nothing else would fit. Yet, every one of his conditions was important for anyone who might find him and want to help.

I remember thinking then that if someone found him, they wouldn’t know who to call. They wouldn’t know what illnesses he had. They wouldn’t know which medications he couldn’t take. They would be helpless, despite the best of intentions.

My grandfather is no longer with us. But that image of a man standing in the cold at an intersection stays with me to this day. And that is where the Medical Rescue Wristband came from.

I want anyone who finds a person in need to never feel helpless. I want a single tap of a phone to be enough to display everything needed to help as quickly as possible and notify the family waiting at home, unaware of what is happening.
